Securities services for the middle and back office
In the securities business, dwpbank is the bank behind the banks. It provides retail and wholesale services and products throughout the entire securities order lifecycle.
dwpbank offers all processes from order routing and settlement through to delivery and entry. Clients can select and customise the services provided to them from among a broad range of options – including exchange membership and depository services – and can also bundle these into service modules as needed.
They can outsource back office as well as middle office activities, with options ranging from the use of the WP2 securities settlement platform all the way to the full-scale outsourcing of all securities back office functions. dwpbank has gained many years of experience and expertise handling technical migrations to its WP2 securities settlement system.
dwpbank also offers the majority of its products and services for the retail segment, which consists of banks’ securities business with their end clients.
dwpbank offers its clients a broad range of services covering the entire securities order chain. It primarily renders retail securities services to 365 savings banks in 16 German states as well as to 943 cooperative banks (through DZ BANK) and 26 private and corporate banks.
Although dwpbank is also constantly expanding the securities business services it offers to institutional clients, the retail segment represents the foundation of its service range. By outsourcing their securities settlement activities to dwpbank, institutions can relieve themselves of burdensome tasks outside their core business. This allows bank employees in the retail segment to turn their focus on sales. dwpbank’s offering is not restricted to administrative duties, but rather also extends to sales support services. It is constantly adapting its retail service range to accommodate market innovations such as direct trading and online brokerage in the interests of its clients.
dwpbank handles securities settlement for eight state banks, the cooperative central bank DZ BANK, and many other private banks such BHF-BANK and SEB AG, which primarily serve institutional clients.
In contrast to the retail business, the wholesale business – i.e., business with institutional clients, asset management companies and proprietary traders – is highly international in nature. When it comes to wholesale securities settlement, the ability to accommodate the practices of all relevant countries and markets is everything. dwpbank currently has access to a network of depositories in more than 80 countries and is linked up with depository and custodian infrastructure outside of Germany.
The processes and systems brought to bear in the wholesale business are characterised by a high level of quality and automation, and are designed in particular to ensure transaction risk management and to dovetail with selected depositories.
Transparency is essential. dwpbank’s custody portal helps its wholesale clients to stay on top of things. It provides customised overviews of assets under custody as well as information on the markets in which dwpbank operates for its clients. It also provides an overview of current market structures such as exchange venues, custodians and Central Securities Depositories (CSDs), as well as current information on new regulatory and market requirements.
